Any rancher knows that slaughter cows and bulls have significant “salvage value” at local/regional live auctions, and many folks already manage and carefully market their culls according to the seasonality of cull prices and convenience for their individual operations.
However, the cattlemen of Salt of the Earth Rancher’s Cooperative are going beyond the norm to earn more from our supply of culls by developing a niche beef program.
We are using our leverage as producers working together to produce a large and constant supply of cull beef cattle to meet demand created by the changing market of American beef consumers: People increasingly want a connection to their food, and are paying more for this added value.
The Salt of the Earth Rancher’s Cooperative is developing a network of ranchers, and working with aggregators and processors to create a program capable of delivering a consistent 52-week per year supply of beef. The exact value-added marketing claims under which we market the beef will be determined by the type of cattle available from within our pool of coop members, the needs of the buyers, and the Coop’s ability to verify its marketing claims with integrity.
While proving this model, the Rancher’s Coop is currently looking to buy your cull cows and bulls that fit with our program. We would also like to talk with you if you have interest in joining or working with our cooperative.
